Description

Three lengths. Take whichever fits the slot.

One line

Kosal is a turn-based tactical MMORPG: a shared world with a player-run economy, where fights are played out on a grid with action points.

One paragraph

Kosal is an independent turn-based tactical MMORPG for Windows PC, in the tradition of Dofus and Wakfu. Players share one world and run its economy between them: everything for sale is gathered or crafted by somebody, and the prices are theirs. Fights are turn-based on a grid. You spend movement points to position and action points to cast, and the ground you were standing on is the ground you fight on. It is made by a very small team in Belgium.

Full

Kosal is an independent turn-based tactical MMORPG for Windows PC, made by a very small team in Belgium. It belongs to the tradition of Dofus and Wakfu: a shared persistent world, an economy players run themselves, and combat that stops the clock and puts everyone on a grid.

Players share one world. What is for sale in it was gathered or crafted by another player, at a price another player set, so a crafter is a career and a gathering route is worth knowing. Quests, NPCs and dungeons fill the space between.

Fights are turn-based and fought on a grid. You spend movement points to position and action points to cast, then end your turn and see what comes back at you. Each spell has a cost, a range, an area and a cooldown, so a fight is won by acting in the right order from the right square. The fight happens on the ground you were already walking on, so where you pick a fight is part of the fight.

A party has six slots. Fill them with your own heroes, with other players, or with a mix of both, and the game is the same game either way. Power comes from playing. An optional Hardcore world, with permadeath and full-loot PvP, is planned for players who want the stakes higher, and the standard world is untouched by it.

A turn-based fight on a beach: two characters face three turtles and a shark in a pirate hat, each standing in a coloured ring on the grid
A fight on the beach where it started. Blue rings are your side, red the monsters; the turn timer runs at the top and the turn ends when you say so.
Players and chickens around a cottage on a village map, with the health, spell and menu bar below
The village, in the development build. Players share the map; the bar along the bottom is health, action and movement points, the spell slots and the menus.
Players harvesting rows of cereal in a field beside a windmill, one of them part-way through a gathering bar
Harvesting cereal in the fields below the mill. What players gather here is what other players buy, at prices players set.

About JOPA Studio

JOPA Studio is a very small independent team in Belgium. Kosal is our first game. We are making it because we wanted another game in this genre and there were not many being made. We build it in the open and write up what changed on the devblog as we go.
